It’s your choice! ๐
Vast majority of commercially cut gemstones can be improved by re-cutting. It is a kind of aesthetic surgery that gem-cutters do on a daily basis.
Here are some examples of recutting procedures that we can do, from slightest to more radical:
๐ Re-polish all the facets of the stone. It will give it more shiny appearance, it can improve its color, and it almost not suppose any loss of weight! It is usually done on higher value stones with poor polishing or on those that were already used in jewelry and got some tiny scratches and chips.
๐ Correct the symmetry and close the window. Those are the most frequent problems of a massively produced gemstones, that are usually cut to save as much weight as possible, and not for the beauty of the gem. The lost of weight is more significant here, it depends on the magnitude of the problems to fix. Usually around 10-15% of loss, that is totally compensated by the improvement in the appearance.
๐ Radically change the shape and style of faceting of the gem. This is usually done with cheaper gems where we can use a commercially cut stone as a rough material to give it a desired faceting design with high precision quality.
