Finally published, our gemological study of one of the most important historical jewelry objects in Spain – the Great Monstrance of the Toledo Cathedral!
That was an exciting project that we did several years ago, when I was working as Lab Director of the Spanish Gemological Institute (IGE). We identified and described hundreds of important gems used in the decoration of the Monstrance.
Our gemological study was a part of a large project of conservation and restoration of the Monstrance, financed by the Toledo Cathedral and coordinated by the Spanish Ministry of Cultural Heritage. Now, finally, the book about this project was published, including our chapter.
Here is the post about our webinar about the project and its results.
