Alcalá de Henares, birthplace of Cervantes, cradle of the concept of the university campus, with its university founded in 1499. It was here, in the archbishop’s palace, where the Catholic kings interviewed Christopher Columbus to finance his expedition to the Americas. Beautiful medieval town, UNESCO World Heritage Site.
